19 of Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hardcourt
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden title for over two years with success over opponent Moutet in the competition final.
Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has had a difficult year, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.
His varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in especial - caused him falling of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with former trainer his previous coach.
Now training with Johansson and his other coach, he has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested three-set win over challenger Moutet.
It is Medvedev's initial trophy following the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt from March of the previous year.
Victory also indicates he has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one different tournaments.
"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my both daughters together, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 the champion.
"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."
The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, including in the German tournament in the past months.
His defensive play style and recurring emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted observers to question if his ability to compete at the elite level was finished.
However the player has made changes in the past month, striving to advance forward and compete assertively, supported by an enhanced serving game.
The champion recovered from a break down in the opening set against the challenging opponent, taking four of the last five exchanges to take the lead.
The pair exchanged break points in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to push for a third set.
He defended four initial opportunities in a competitive third set before the Russian won the break to 15 to close out the victory.
Suitably, he clinched the title with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
