The highly-awaited Season 2 of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel launches on the streaming platform this week, and fan speculation has been widespread.
Season 1 introduces a diverse group of characters living within Hell and Heaven, pits them against each other accompanied by musical numbers about their clashes, and builds tense rivalries and emotional bonds that drive audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for the new season differ greatly, but certain threads recur frequently: Could Angel Dust break free from Valentino? Will we find out more about the binding agreement constraining the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Obviously, I don't produce the show with fan service as the main goal," the creator commented recently. "But I feel like me being a devotee of the series implies there's a lot of it just naturally. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator reveals her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That could imply fans have to wait years for some of the major resolutions — but they may be surprised at how quickly the new season moves, and how much of what they're waiting for happens this season.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "There are several debut moments. I think we receive some incredible disclosures, some really cool backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear much more singing from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
The creator is well-informed of the guesses and hopes about season 2 — especially in the form of audience prediction charts.
"I've come across a few fans make a bingo card about season 2," she says. "Naturally I can't post it, but I've already completed a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 premieres on Prime Video on October 29.
